Hydration is Key

I was feeling a bit dehydrated today when I wanted to run. Instead of running then, I took a couple of hours to hydrate, and I am so glad that I did. I drank about 34 oz of water, peed, then hopped on the treadmill. I recalled last time I ran dehydrated. My body fought me the entire time. I didn't sweat and overheated very quickly. The difference between the two runs was incredible. I was in much better shape back then, but today's run was so much easier in comparison. Most would say, "DUH!" but this was an epiphany of sorts to me. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. Yay for H2O!

Remember, you should drink an ounce of water for every pound you weigh every day. That means if you weigh like 150 you should drink 18.75 glasses or 1.17 gallons of water every day.

And if you want to lose weight - double it - along with a healthy diet and exercise of course... :)

Cheryl, you are going to kill people with your wonderful water advice. It's half your weight in lbs in oz of water but is also dependent on many factors. And doubling your method?!?! That's absurd! You should sue your source, unless, of course, you are married to it. :-P Even then though, you may still want to....

It is amazing how much better your body functions and how much better you feel when your body is hydrated!!!

Cerra, My source was a chiropractor that we both knew... And a gallon of water a day is not too much - especially in the summer. Just make sure you keep your sodium intake and electrolytes up as well.

OMGosh... Have you ever heard of "WATER INTOXICATION"? This is a lethal condition! Google it and you will find lots of references and articles.
One such article can be found at chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm

Remember... too much of a good thing can be BAD!

Food for thought from your favorite nursey mama :)

Just use your head, people! Our bodies are actually pretty smart and can let us know when we need more of something, when we've had enough, and when we've had too much.

I would say I drink a lot of water, and my body tells me how to moderate my drinking, just got to listen to what it tells you!

In the summer months it's not uncommon for me to drink up to 2 gallons of water a day...I drink half of that at work alone. I also sweat about the same amount, though.

But everyone's different, if I only drank half my weight in oz's, I would probably die of dehydration, literally. I NEED MAH H2OOOOOOYEAHS!

So pretty much, you're all crazy! :)

Paul, don't act like two gallons of water is more oz than half your weight in lbs. We all know how much you weigh. The debate really did end when the 'best nursey-mommy EVER' spoke. END!

And if you want your posts to stay on my blog, stop calling names!
